Shopify adds channel-specific product data — check the mapping before saving
Different channels can receive different product details. A single mapping rule can also affect the whole published catalogue.

Shopify announced a new channel-mapping page on 28 October, letting merchants choose which product data each eligible sales channel receives. Titles, images, categories and other fields can use different sources, with a preview of the values being sent.
The practical benefit is separation: a channel can receive a shorter title stored in a metafield while the online shop keeps its existing title. Merchants can combine text sources, bulk-edit channel values and check which fields lack data.
The scope matters. Shopify’s help documentation says a channel-wide mapping applies to every product published there, rather than a selected category. Some channels, including Shop and Shopify Collective, are excluded. Money fields cannot be mapping sources. A preview shows transmitted data, not whether a channel approves or displays the listing.
Our take: review a few representative products before saving a rule across the catalogue. Include variants and items with missing source values. A neatly populated feed still needs accurate specifications; filling a field is not the same as verifying its contents.
For European shops selling through several channels, this is an operational option to investigate, not a demonstrated sales uplift or a promise that every existing feed-management tool can be removed.
